One way to quickly upgrade the appearance of a home is by the use of home siding. Home siding can be made of aluminum, vinyl, cedar, steel, or some other material. Vinyl siding is one of the most popular forms of siding because it is quite low in cost. The durability of the vinyl depends on several factors include the quality of the ingredients used to make the vinyl and the thickness of the panel.

Vinyl siding that is of average quality will not last as long as premium siding. Premium siding is more expensive but it looks more attractive and can withstand more extreme weather conditions. The cheaper vinyl siding is more likely to start sagging after a few years. It is also more likely to be damaged during a severe windstorm.

Aluminum siding is very durable and is available in a variety of finishes. For example, it is possible to purchase aluminum siding that has a woodgrain finish or even a cedar finish. This will create a look that appears to resemble wood rather than aluminum. Aluminum can also be painted so that the siding will last a long time.

Steel siding is extremely strong and is available in several types of woodgrain finishes.

Cedar siding has a very warm and distinctive look. This material will last a long time and is quite resistant to rot. Cedar siding is most suitable to environments where there is a lot of rain, such as on the West Coast. In more arid climates, cedar siding can create a fire hazard.
